In this series I have commissioned eight disparate voices to create work in cast iron; young designers making digital files materialized in a symbol of the 19th century industrial revolution. A marriage of the material origins of industrial making and current digital hyper-connectively of design ideas.
I thoughtfully use our globalized production system, buying ideas not goods, shipping digital files not tons of iron. Pieces are produced close to buyers minimizing environmental impact of production and sale. Co-opting and inverting the intricate global system of production by using American industry to produce a global scope of design. The process of producing the edition itself becoming a commentary on our global consumer society.
