After 30 years of experience in the field of interior design as innovators, researchers, curators and taste-makers, renowned interior design house Living In Interiors, based in Egypt and founded by the Tanani family in 1992, have launched their most anticipated pillar to date, Egyptian Design Gallery Don Tanani. The Design Gallery answers a need in the MENA region and Egyptian design market for elevation in design made in Egypt and the Middle East. Don Tanani is a Design Gallery that intends on pushing the envelope of Egytpian design and functional art; creating products that emulate art, can be collected as art, and are numbered as art. The pieces will be designed by hand-picked Egyptian geniuses of design, selected to spearhead collections under the Design Gallery name Don Tanani. The inaugural designer collection under Don Tanani is entitled Duality by Egyptian product designer Lina El Orabi.

The pieces from the Duality collection are inspired by Egypt’s rich and expansive pharonic heritage. They are by no means static objects, they are timeless functional art pieces and are created to withstand the test of time. The collection is designed and made in Egypt and is the first of its kind to be made in Egypt at this level of conceptualization, craftsmanship, execution, and design excellence. Don Tanani was founded by the Tanani family Duality by Lina El Orabi for Don Tanani For DonTanani’s inaugural collection the team wanted to explore ancient Egyptian design and culture through the lense of contemporary functional art. In ancient Egypt, objects and art were considered a living image of their subject, preserving their likeness and existing for the afterlife and future generations. Carving gave static materials warmth, movement and life; encapsulating a moment in time. Skin of stone or wood is serene and tender; complex wigs, jewelry, fabric and animal skins are represented with elegant carving and inlay. Material and skill are combined to express opulence, texture and life to create objects that marry function and art. The Duality collection inaugurates what will be a continued exploration and ongoing project of the Don Tanani Design Gallery and designer Lina Alorabi of Egyptian identity and a new standard for Egyptian design. The main aim of this first collection is to redefine and disrupt the perception of Egyptian design and craft both locally and globally. The Duality project was started in April 2018 in Cairo, Egypt. This first collection aims to revive cultural memories and bring centuries of craft and design into the present. As Egyptians this is the moment to reclaim our narrative; a civilization that represents art and design mastery cannot fade into the background. We have everything we need here in Egypt; after all this is where it all began...
